Over the space of a whirlwind weekend in late 2013 the much loved ZY in downtown SLC was transformed into Alamexo. Still owned and operated by chef Matt Lake, but now singularly focused on Lake’s true culinary passion, refined Mexican cuisine.
You’ll find many familiar Mexican dishes at the restaurant but each one is given a makeover of flair and flavor at Lake’s hands. Pictured above is the Enchilada Del Día. This particular rendition of the daily special came loaded with tender braised short rib and shrimp. The finishing touch, a zesty tomatillo sauce, far removed from overly sweet red sauce and gloopy cheese mess, you will find at many Mexican restaurants.
