Easily the best overall Japanese restaurant in Utah by my estimation. And with the oceans of restaurants we have to choose from, that’s no mean praise. Frankly, Naked Fish has the potential to be one of the best in the states, especially if owner Jonny Kwon keeps pace with his obsessive focus on quality.
The two kitchens at Naked Fish offer a wide range to choose from. The full kitchen behind closed door offers cooked fare from ramen to yakitori, and the sushi counter prepares a range of top notch sushi – with an eye on sustainability wherever possible.
The maki sushi roll above is the Tengu Roll ($13.95) which comprises shrimp tempura, avocado, spicy crab salad, tuna, tobiko, spicy aioli and tare. Certainly skewing more Western in approach, the dish still retains plenty of authentic Japanese classicism: freshness, exacting quality and preparation and above all – its darn delicious.
